A flatbed wagon would pull up close to the barn beneath the top from the track, the spear lowered right down to the wagon and speared into one bale. The pulley rope could well be used to manually raise the bale up until eventually it could enter the mow in the door, then moved along the track in to the barn and finally launched for manual stacking
